Johan Haeger's mission in life is to create a thriving, sustainable, and inclusive world. He does this at Material Economics by advising clients on sustainability- and resource strategy topics.


Johan primarily serves clients in the banking, retail, and heavy industry sectors, plus the public sector and cities. He is an expert in circularity- and climate strategies, low-carbon heavy industry (plastics, steel, cement, pulp and paper), biomass use in a net-zero economy, and sustainable investing.


At Material Economics, Johan has completed 15+ sustainability-related strategy projects for clients. He has also led the mathematical modelling and co-authored seven of the company's reports on climate change and the circular economy with organizations like the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Cambridge University, Energy Transitions Commission, European Climate Foundation etc.


Johan holds an M.Sc. from Stanford University and a B.Sc. from Chalmers University of Technology. He has lived in Namibia, Tanzania, China, and the United States and currently lives in Stockholm, Sweden, with his boyfriend.
